Tunisian Crochet is worked on a special long hook with a stopper on the end, so that the stitches stay on the hook. Once started you work with a forward and backward pass, keeping the right side of the work facing at all times. This class starts from the beginning, showing you haw to use the Tunisian hook, how to start and make Tunisian simple stitch, knit stitch and purl stitch, you will be shown how these can be used in combination to make basket weave and honeycomb stitch. This class is suitable for those who have crocheted before.
- Date for this course is Wednesday 25th April 3pm to 5pm – cost £18 (2hrs) and includes all teaching materials, pattern, Tunisian crochet hook, yarn for samples, and refreshments!
Learn to make these small toys originally from Japan. We will learn how to read an original pattern (designed by me!), start a magic ring, increase and decrease to create shaping, working in the back loop, and adding pieces and safety eyes. You will receive an the pattern, yarn to complete at least 2 monsters, and photo tutorial. This workshop is for those who can already crochet but have not attempted amigurumi (you will be using ch, dc and slst).
- Date for this course is Thursday 3rd May, from 2.30 – 5pm – cost £22 (2 1/2 hours) and includes all teaching materials, crochet hook, safety eyes, yarn for monsters, and refreshments!
Crochet for All
We have the next set of ‘Crochet for all’ courses starting soon . I am now specialising in teaching left handed, so just let me know when booking if you are left handed and I will provide appropriate instructions, and be able to demonstrate for you.
Each course is 2 hours per session, with 5 weekly sessions – we have a limited number on each course and tailor the course to your needs. If you are an absolute beginner, we go nice and slow! If you have some experience but are wanting to brush up on your skills we progress further.
Week 1: Holding the hook, chains, treble crochet in rows, filet crochet – or making deliberate holes!
Week 2: Working in the round – Granny squares, changing colour, dealing with ends!
Week 3: Working the foundation row, different height stitches from double crochet to quadruple trebles
Week 4: Increasing and decreasing, making a ripple pattern.
Week 5: working in three dimensions, Flower motif square, some simple joining techniques.
Dates are: Tuesday evenings 7-9pm, 24th April, 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd May,
Thursday afternoons 2 – 4pm, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st May, 7th June
Cost is £80 and includes all teaching materials, crochet hook, yarn for samples, and refreshments
Next Steps in Crochet
We are currently running a next steps in Crochet course – while we have started this 5 week course, you can still join for the following weeks on Saturday mornings from 10am-12noon:
21st April – Working in Thread and Laceweight yarns – how to use finer yarns in crochet. You will receive all yarn and patterns, please bring a 2mm and 4mm hook
28th April – Corner to Corner (C2C) – learn this fascinating technique that has many different applications – but is great for blankets! Yarn and patterns provided please bring your usual hook for Double knitting yarn (4-5mm)
5th May – Joining motif squares – There are many, many different ways to join squares in crochet I will guide you through some of the way and how they can be changed. you will need to bring your hook with 6-7 completed granny squares in double knitting yarn, and one with the final round not complete – so you can join as you go! You will receive worksheets and yarn to join.
