About me

Picture of Diana

Hi!   My name is Diana, I am a Primary teacher turned crochet addict!

I left teaching to pursue a craft that I was passionate about – Crochet!

I opened my shop – The Crochet Chain in 2010, it was open for 4 years, and during that time I honed my crochet skills, teaching crochet (and a bit of knitting) to many, many people.  I started designing, and found that I like to make patterns that are easy to follow, and that use a minimum of sewing up!

I have designed for Women’s Weekly, DMC, King Cole, Inside Crochet and Lets Knit!  This experience has helped me to hone my designing skills, but I now prefer to sell my patterns directly to my lovely customers!

I sell my designs and kits online on Etsy and Ravelry, and at Shows.  I run courses at Crates of Wool in Ware, and Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire, workshops at Shows especially Ally Pally,  in 2018 I ran my  #123shawl MCAL (Mystery Crochet Along).  I run two social groups locally, and have  a video podcast on Youtube!  I am very happy to run courses for groups or 1:1 please ask for details!

When not designing or podcasting, I can be found at many of the wool shows around the country, either exhibiting or visiting!

Along with my friend Kate, I run the Waltham Abbey Wool Show, and are looking forward to our 6th Show on the 20th January 2019!

I am married (25 years!) and have a wonderful son, who is now an adult!  Where did those years go! I live in Waltham Abbey, which I love for many reasons, it has a villagey feel, but we are sooo close to the M25 for venturing further afield, but also close to Epping Forest and the Lee Valley Parks, and if we want to go into town (thats London town) it is a short train ride away.

    Hi Diana

Please advise if you run classes for beginners? I see that Missenden Abbey are running one over a weekend but unfortunately I am unable to attend this.

I would love to learn and probably would be happier to do this face to face rather than follow instructions via a web site/u tube. Do you also offer lessons on knitting?

I look forward to hearing from you

      Hi Jacci,
Sorry for delay in replying, I have been away from my blog for a bit, but now I’m back!
I do run courses for beginners, the Missenden Abbey one is during the holiday 5th – 7th August – in two weeks time, but there is still time to book. I will be running a course locally in Waltham Abbey after that. Would you like to email me diana@thecrochetchain.co.uk and I can send you details via a monthly newsletter. I do occasionally offer knitting too!
      Kindest regards

    Hi Diana,

I am interested in learning how to crochet but I have never done it before so I am a very very beginner. My grandma has learned it not long ago and I am amazed by the awesome things she creates and how fast she has learned it.
I would appreciate if you could email me on morenammd@hotmail.com letting me know a bit more about the course you run (if you still do) for beginners, prices, dates, times.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Dianna,
I am going to be in Surrey for my holiday from March 20th to April 28th.
I am interested in learning Tapestry.
I have done lots if crochet .
But i want to learn Tapestry methodically.
Do you have any classes scheduled during that time period??

    Hello Diana

I came on one of your crochet courses at a Knit and Stitch exhibition earlier this year. We started a little clutch bag using cable stitches. You asked us to let you know how we got on. I found the original pattern quite complicated, so I started again just doing the cabling down the sides, leaving the middle plain. It came out well!
If you email me I could send a picture; not sure how to do it through here!
